Kinetiko Methane Gas Exploration / Amersfoort – 2021

Torque Africa Group, recently completed a significant methane gas exploration project in the northern Karoo Basin of South Africa. The project involved drilling three methane gas wells, named Korhaan-3, Korhaan-4, and Korhaan-5, with the aim of testing gassy sandstones and coal bed methane horizons.

Partnering with Australian gas explorer Kinetiko Energy, Torque Africa encountered significant gas formations at all three Korhaan project wells. Despite facing harsh rainy conditions in the small town of Mpumalanga, Amersfoort, the Torque Africa team persevered. Implementing additional measures such as night shifts, they navigated through the tough weather to ensure the project’s success and meet the objectives set by their clients.

The completion of the three-hole multi-project within the designated timeframe is a testament to Torque Africa’s commitment to excellence and their ability to overcome challenging environmental conditions. This achievement not only highlights the company’s technical proficiency but also underscores their dedication to delivering results that meet and exceed client expectations.

The success of this methane gas exploration project represents a significant step forward in unlocking the potential of South Africa’s natural resources. As Torque Africa continues to push the boundaries of exploration and drilling technology, they remain at the forefront of the industry, driving innovation and contributing to the sustainable development of the energy sector in the region.

Despite facing adverse weather conditions, our team’s perseverance and dedication ensured the timely completion of the project, meeting our client’s objectives.

Torque Africa Group is excited to announce the commencement of a comprehensive drilling programme in the Karoo Basin of South Africa. This ambitious initiative will involve the deployment of two drill rigs, each tasked with drilling multiple wells to explore and exploit methane gas reserves in the region.

The programme will kick off with the first rig, B21, spudding Korhaan-4 imminently. Korhaan-4 will be drilled using a percussion/air-drilled well method, aiming to efficiently penetrate the targeted formations. Following closely, the second rig, B16, will spud Korhaan-3 two weeks later. This well will be drilled using a rotary mud system, allowing for precise drilling through the 300-meter production interval.

Once the drilling of Korhaan-4 and Korhaan-3 is completed, Rig B21 will move on to drill Korhaan-5 using the percussion/air method once more. It is anticipated that all drilling activities will be finalized by early December, marking a significant milestone in our exploration efforts.

Subsequent to drilling, all three wells will undergo flow testing after logging to assess their potential gas production capabilities. Looking ahead to 2022, the Company plans to return to the wells to undertake casing, cementing, and perforation operations. These measures are aimed at maximizing gas production while mitigating any potential water ingress, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of the wells.

Torque Africa Group is committed to the responsible and sustainable development of natural resources in South Africa. This drilling programme represents a crucial step towards unlocking the full potential of methane gas reserves in the Karoo Basin. Through diligent planning, innovative drilling techniques, and rigorous testing, we are confident in our ability to achieve success in this venture, contributing to the energy security and economic prosperity of the region.
